I started purchasing land in 1984 to create a forest animal wildlife preserve. After retiring from my construction business in New York I have returned to the New River to continue the project. Inside dimensions of the covered part of the shelter are approximately 8 foot wide, 10 foot long, and around 6 feet tall. There is also a cold water only shower , and an outhouse. 2 Wheel Drive vehicles are able to access the shelter unless it is raining, or wet, then they need to park just at the top of the hill above the shelter.

Loved the shelter. Running water and electric were really appreciated. Clean and cozy. Nice relaxing view. Picknick table and fire pit rock.. Down side- stated off leash for dogs. Did not mention the chickens and geese next to the camp. 5 am rooster wake up call was interesting. If hiking down to river make sure to bring water for trip back up on hot days. Steep climb up. Path to river does not offer any launching pad or place to relax. River was high and too dangerous for dogs to enjoy. Check river hight before booking if river activities are your draw. For camping great time. Just the relaxation needed.

Peaceful with great view
Amazing! This spot is perfect for a rustic getaway with some conveniences including electricity, running water, and outhouse. The view from the deck was beautiful and the birds were so active that it felt like we were in a treehouse. The path down to the New River Trail was probably less than one mile (fairly steep) and well maintained and had an abundance of active wildlife. The road to the Hipcamp was in good condition even though we had a lot rain the week prior but I would recommend AWD or 4WD vehicles only. I hope to return for another visit in the near future!

Great camp spot!
We really enjoyed our weekend camping trip here ! We had 4 people the platform was not big enough for two tents comfortably so we pitched one on the grass. We were so grateful they had a covering bc it did rain a lot on us and we had to stay under the platform and play games. Really enjoyed the walk to the river just watch out for poison ivy & oak on the trail. I would definitely recommend this camp site!

Our first time camping and other than a few mistakes I made...most beautiful place I have seen yet and the host are the greatest you'll find you couldn't ask for anymore....loved it
